Drain Line Clog

One of the most common reasons your ductless air conditioner might leak water is because something is clogging the drain line. As time goes on, it’s not uncommon for the drain line to fill with dirt and debris. This ultimately causes the water to back up into the ductless AC system, where the water leaks out somewhere else.

Improper Installation

If you installed your ductless AC system at the wrong level or an awkward angle, it can block or reroute the drain system. This causes water to leak out of places it shouldn’t. Though it seems simple, it’s best to leave this to one of our HVAC professionals.

Drain Pan Damage

If you’ve had your ductless AC system for years and it’s starting to leak, it may be due to a damaged drain pan. Drain pans are responsible for collecting the excess water on the evaporator coils and draining it. This component protects the mini-split and the surrounding area from water damage.

Frozen Evaporator Coils

The evaporator coils are responsible for producing cool air, but they can also have their own problems. If the coils freeze and defrost, the water will overwhelm the drain pan, causing it to leak. An HVAC professional can either refill the refrigerant or replace the coils entirely.
